Hi Thomas

Yes I did enjoy the speech after hearing it about ten or so times.

Full of hope and realisim, what I do find interesting is the myriad of interpretations from heaps of supposed experts and wordsmiths.

Cheers Chris

Hello Sean,

Thank you for letting me read your blog, I really like reading it and I watched the whole thing on television yesterday and I love every bit of it right down to the dance with his lovely wife to the song At Last which was sang by Beyonce. We as Americans have come a long way and now we have our first African American Priesdent. That just let everyone know that when the Americans went to come together, we can and we will make a change. Once again thank you.

Thanks for this blog, Mr. Power

I have sent my comment this morning on the French Canadian TV =

The very FIRST time I saw President Obama on TV last year on his way to Presidency against Mrs. Hilary Clinton, my heart was beating and the emotions that came on words were = He shall be and will be the President.

No matter if you don't beleive me, Me I know what I am saying and what I felt that time, and never in a "dull moment" I had fear for him, always beleived that He shall succeed to Presidency. I was not a feeling of "hope", nor an "obligation", but rather like "if it was written in the sky".

I have elected him for his intelligence, his charismatic attitude, sens of humour, and care for his family. God bless Him and shall we do what he is expecting from us.

Sincerely, Denise

What a fantastic day, not only for the American people, but for the rest of us as well.
I followed the election drama and wondered if America was ready for the amazing change which took place today, the historic inaugariation of the first Black President. What a charasmatic man he is, and what expectations we all have of him, i wish the new President every success with his mission, for the benefit of us all.
Wow, what an amazing day.

What does it mean for the world ( Canada in particular) now that Obama, the 1st "African-American" male, has been elected President in a majority government.

The world is about to undergo a great renaissance beginning in the USA. Great time to be alive and living in the USA - a future to look forward to will include major social and cultural changes to the whole multicultural melting pot that makes up the USA population. Then again, what about a President who is a well-educated "African-American" Muslim male figurehead? What is his agenda beyond the economical disaster that he is currently inheriting from the Bush administration? What does this mean for the population as a whole? What is going to be done with the middle-east crisis?

We can ask a lot of questions and point at the the many facets of depravation that exists and, which were allowed to breed within the ranks of the social structure - welfare, poverty, drugs, lack of social ethics, etc... I'm sure you can see the extent of the problems that need fixing. These problems exist even when the USA is experiencing economic boom.

The only major change that can be predicted will happen in the "African-American" sector - a change in the mind-set of an evolving cultural group that has been taught to live by other cultural standards. Perhaps now a part of the population mix can finally establish its own cultural identity and fit into the existing social structure of the general population.

As for any "socio-economic" changes...???

We'll see!

Well! For a brand new era in world politics, that was a very short ceremony! Around half a minute, and we now have a new world.

I haven't been following the politics of the world lately - I've been deliberately not listening to the economic rhetoric, so have missed everything else as well.

I do agree with some of the earlier comments that separating politics and religion would be a good thing - too many people are marginalised when Christianity is the only acceptable way.

And I believe that finally having an African American in a position of real power is a wonderful sign - we have perhaps grown up a little and can now start to really recognise people for their value and skill rather than their ethnic or religious background.

Come on World! Let's keep this momentum going and cause some more transformations in 2009!

40 years ago, it was against the law in the USA for an African-American to sit in certain seats on a bus. Toilets too were split and drinking fountains too.

How far has the USA come since then?

MLK was certainly one of the major catalysts and history will record Obama in a bigger context than that. And by itself that is no easy feat. I am glad that the White House has a new liberal in their midst. Might mean a good future for millions of others. But I am not a people, SAM, and have not intention of blaming one man.

A mate of mine, Adam from Chicago says it is American foreign policy and the administration that is the biggest fault with the USA. HE is American by birth. And he loves his country above all others.

Unfortunately, many presidents get stuck with choices, on their desks, Bad Option 1, Worse Option 2 or WE DON'T EVER WANT TO GO THERE - OPTION 3. Bad advisors and a bad day lead to many folks saying that the President has made bad decisions. As you say Sam the Senate has a lot to answer for too.

So, we will wait and see what really happens. For good or bad at least he's young, fresh and on face value - a decent guy too. Something that won't go down too easy on Capitol Hill. Lets see if they are in control of him or IF he is really the most powerful man in the world and in control of them. I hope for the sake of the future that rather than the former it is the latter case.

When are people going to realize that Bush was not the only one running this country! All you people do is blame the president, whatever his party may be...and thats all you people have done the last 20 years! Anything and everything, whether thought of by the president or not, has to go through congress and the house. Bush was not the only one who wanted to go after the terrorists who tried to take us down, congress voted just as well. And they are the ones who continued to turn down Bush's attempt at bringing our soldiers home. I wish Obama luck, that I do. He has some great ideas for this country, its just a matter of congress and the house passing all his ideas for him. But just watch, everyone will begint o blame him when the house and congress votes against it. And the circle of america blaming their own leader, who they voted into office, begins again. YOu guys need to take American Government 101 again before you start badmouthing any leader this country gets!

Wow - when will Americans realise that they must separate religion from politics. Bush's crusade (his words not mine) is the prime example of the murder and torture that eminates from this confusion. The world welcomes America back after 8 years of self imposed isolation and destruction. The key benefit of Obama is that Bush the destroyer is gone

Thomas,

Very nice blog. Yes, it is an exciting time in history.
We are thankful that God is still on the throne and that He will give our new President wisdom. May we, the people, remember to always lift him up in prayer.
We do have many challenges ahead of us, but with God on our side, who can be against us?
To God be all glory, honor and praise. Give thanks with grateful hearts America!

Finally someone that doesn't want to make the rich richer and the poor poorer. Glad everyone realized the republicans were doing nothing, but destroy this country. Hopefully he can freshen up foreign relations destroyed by the Bush administration. Then maybe 80% of the countries on this planet won't hate Americans.

What should become clear is that as former President Bush has honoured President Obama regardless of political parties, in passing on the baton, that already the former administration has laid down the groundwork for the end to the war in Iraq, with President Obama promising yet to increase the effort in ending the war in Afghanistan, in still fighting and being vigilante against terrorism.

As far as the credit crunch the previous administration has put into effect measures to alleviate unnecessary turmoil and suffering, as well as injecting the economy fluidity. Much the same has been the effort of the day with our British Government.

May President Obama forge the way ahead with new insight in politics, the economy and in fusing religious tolerance.

Today (20 January) is probably the beginning of a new History page in the World with the election of a bright, compassionate, Human Being. Yes ! But Hope is the ground of Despair so let's just open our hearts and arms to an exceptional Person, and trust his well-chosen Government staff will not be as machiavelian as Cheney et al. which I guess will not be the case with a person like Obama. Cheers to America for an European amongst many many others !
