My granddaughter introduced me to Webkinz after asking for them for gifts. I have my own Webkinz. I think it is a great educational site. Teaches children coordination, creativity, money management, decorating, challenging, trivia and much more.

Website is very frustrating because it’s always down. They have daily/hourly activities but they can’t be completed-you can’t get on website. Two different games are unfair-you can’t see your opponents status like the Battleship game. Opponents (computer) seem to have more options than you do. Yours will individually suddenly disappear and you haven’t even been given a chance to use it once. They ought to talk to POGO or such to figure out how to get speed in changing screens & activities faster.

Otherwise the site is addicting!!

I’ve put a second mortgage on my home because of Ganz! I’ve lost count how many my daughter has bought and then “activated” on the webkinz site. By the way, each “life” you create on webkinz “expires” in a year. This means you’ve got to go buy another plush toy to get a code. It would be interesting to find out if kids value the code they get for each plush toy they buy or the toy itself!

Being the father of 2 (7yr old girl & 9yr old boy) I have mixed feelings about these virtual worlds. I think they’re pretty cool, and my kids seem to be having fun together on them, but my fear is that they are just being groomed for a future generation World of Warcrack. Then again I don’t want to be a hypocritical father as I will play some of these games from time to time. So I have to find a balance and educate them along the way. Fyi…my kids site of choice is currently Club Penguin.
